CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

SOCIETY FOR ANALYSIS OF AFRICAN-AMERICAN PUBLIC HEALTH ISSUES

American Public Health Association 136th Annual Meeting – San Diego, CA
"Public Health Without Borders"
October 25-29, 2008

ABSTRACTS DUE: MAY 1, 2008

SAAPHI is currently seeking abstracts related to the 2008 annual symposium on "Public Health Without Borders" to be held in San Diego, California, October 25–29, 2008

Topics of Interest
While abstracts reflecting new and innovative information for any area of public health that impacts African Americans will be reviewed, SAAPHI will be placing an emphasis on abstracts related to:
· Global Warming and the Health Impact on Vulnerable Populations
· Epidemiologic Transition of Diseases in the Lesser Developed World
· Trade Policies and its Impact on Global Populations
· An Emerging Public Health Crisis: Mental Health

Abstracts should be related to one of the above topics. SAAPHI encourages integrative approaches to promote the health of individuals and communities through scientifically based interventions, intervention guided-research, and health policy advocacy.

When choosing which track to submit an abstract, authors should select the one they feel best represents the contents focus. All abstracts will be peer-reviewed and ranked for quality, topic applicability, and relation to overall Section priorities. At least one presenter must be a SAAPHI member.

Students are especially encouraged to submit abstracts pertaining to their academic research. Up to two student finalists who are first and presenting authors on their contributed abstract will be eligible for the SAAPHI’s Student Achievement Award when submitting their abstract online. The top two student finalists will be judged on their abstracts for presentation, style, and knowledge of the subject matter. These two finalists will be awarded prizes of $250 for the 1st place winner and $125 for the 2nd place winner at the SAAPHI’s Business Meeting. Winners must be members of SAAPHI.
