San Mames will host Athletic Bilbao and Barcelona in the late Sunday kickoff in La Liga.

First-half goals from brothers Inaki and Nico Williams sent Athletic Bilbao on their way to a comfortable 3-0 win — 4-0 on aggregate — over Atletico Madrid on Thursday and set up a Copa del Rey final against Mallorca on April 6.

The hosts remain in need of three points here to boost their push for a top-four spot this season, currently sitting fifth in La Liga table, one place behind Atletico in fourth.

Barcelona, on the other hand, are third in La Liga and boast a healthy eight-point cushion over Sunday's opponents after an impressive 4-0 home victory against Getafe CF in their most recent league game.

Vinícius Júnior will return to play at Valencia on Saturday in Real Madrid’s first visit to Mestalla Stadium since the Black player was racially abused by local fans last season.

That attack was among the worst the Brazil forward has had to repeatedly endure in Spain. It led to an upswell of support for Vinícius and forced soccer authorities to take action, even though the abuse toward him has continued.

Vinícius was reduced to tears during that match last May after confronting a Valencia fan who called him a monkey and made monkey gestures. After initially not wanting to continue, he kept playing. He then vowed to not back down.

Many hoped that game would be a turning point. But the hate Vinícius is subjected to during away games has not stopped. In October, Sevilla ejected a fan and filed a complaint with police after the spectator allegedly displayed “xenophobic and racist behavior” toward the 23-year-old.

On Thursday, Spanish police reported that they had arrested an Atletico Madrid fan for allegedly threatening and hurling racist insults at an eight-year-old girl who was wearing a Vinícius shirt before a Spanish capital derby in September.

There are at least two more court investigations into racist acts targeting Vinícius, along with more complaints filed by Spanish league officials.

State prosecutors are seeking four-year prison terms for the four men, apparently Atletico fans, who hung an effigy of Vinícius off a bridge before another derby in January 2023. In another case, a judge is investigating a verbal attack by a Mallorca fan.

The first trial against a fan who racially insulted a player in Spain is expected to begin this year following remarks by an Espanyol supporter against Athletic Bilbao forward Iñaki Williams.

Jude Bellingham, the league top scorer with 16, has missed the last three games for Madrid due to a hurt left ankle. He is training individually, and it seems plausible that coach Carlo Ancelotti would not want to rush him back before next week’s Champions League game against Leipzig.

The game will be Valencia’s first in two weeks after its game in the last round was postponed in respect for the victims of a deadly fire in the Mediterranean city. Valencia, with a game in hand, is 10th.

Yuri Berchiche and Ander Herrera are both out for this one while Nico Williams and Dani Vivian are suspended. Alex Berenguer should replace Nico Williams while Yeray Alvarez could come in for Vivian in defense. Unai Simon is also set to return instead of Copa del Rey goalkeeper Julen Agirrezabala.

Gavi, Alejandro Balde and Marcos Alonso are all out but Ferran Torres could yet make the cut for this one. Inigo Martinez could come back in against his former club with Pedri also in line to return in Joao Felix's place with Raphinha expected to continue on the right. Andreas Christensen could keep his midfield role with Ilkay Gundogan and Frenkie de Jong next to him.

It is one of the most captivating encounters Matchday 27 will offer, featuring two of the top-ranked teams in the standings going head-to-head. On one side is Barcelona, a team known for its relentless determination and consistent competitiveness in every tournament it participates in.

Although they currently trail behind the leaders, Real Madrid, they are optimistic about progressively narrowing the gap, and achieving a victory is crucial for them. Their opponents, Athletic Club, are vying for a spot in the Champions League positions. They have recently secured a 3-0 victory over Atletico Madrid in the Copa del Rey and are eager to replicate that performance.

Athletic are still upon to call upon the injured Ander Herrera, while Yuri Berchiche is unlikely to feature after he was forced with a hamstring problem in the first half of Sunday's defeat to Betis.

Yeray Alvarez was utilised off the bench against Atletico Madrid after recovering from an ankle issue, and the centre-back could return to the starting XI here alongside first-choice goalkeeper Unai Simon, who will replace cup goalie Julen Agirrezabala in between the sticks for the hosts.

Barcelona will travel to San Mames on Sunday for one of the toughest away days in the entire season without attacker Ferran Torres, who has been ruled out of Sunday's game despite reports that he's inching closer to a return to full training.

The club's injury list continues to feature the likes of Alejandro Balde, Gavi, and Marcos Alonso.

With Joao Felix back and Sergi Roberto at his disposal, head coach Xavi has several options for change, but he is unlikely to want to disrupt the side too much following a strong performance against Getafe.
